Chimaev Reflects on Breaking Whittaker’s Jaw
Khamzat Chimaev, after his commanding victory over Robert Whittaker at UFC 308, addressed the serious injury Whittaker suffered due to his submission hold. Chimaev explained at the post-fight press conference that he did not intend to cause such severe harm. Reflecting on the match, he said,
“I didn’t mean to break somebody’s chin, but it’s my work, to make somebody pain and make me happy, my family.” According to Chimaev, he became aware something was wrong as he felt “some clicks” when applying the hold.
However, he only realized the full extent of the damage upon seeing the photo later on, where Whittaker’s jaw and teeth showed signs of intense force and injury.
