KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Kern’s Food Hall is scrapping its unpopular paid parking system in South Knoxville.
Mike Cohen, a public relations representative for Kern’s, confirmed Wednesday it would no longer charge parking fees. Employees were seen removing the parking signs on New Year’s Eve.
“Just park and enjoy,” he said.
The parking fee system was announced in August as Tennessee’s football season was getting underway. Kern’s originally wanted to implement long-term gameday parking fees up to $30 and wanted to charge people for parking after the first two hours “on most days.”
The food hall said the new fees would help “maintain a high level of service and facilities upkeep along with deterring long-term term parking.”
