MCLEAN COUNTY (25News Now) – Normal Police said car break-ins and theft usually increase during the holiday season.
Community Engagement Officer Darien Bachman said people traveling may forget to lock their cars or leave valuables, like gifts, inside and in plain sight.
“A lot of times people are parking their cars in areas that they’re maybe not super familiar with and, if you’re not super familiar with a specific area of town, there’s that potential of victimization,” Bachman said.
He said incidents also increase as the weather becomes colder and people leave their cars unattended to warm up.
“Locking your vehicle is a huge part of it, as well as not running your vehicle when you’re not in your vehicle,” Bachman said. “Not only is it bad for your vehicle, but it increases your chances of being victimized.”
