Keep pets safe this Halloween [Video]

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Halloween is only a few days away, and although there will be treats, keeping your pets safe and happy doesn’t have to be a trick.

Halloween brings lots of activity in the home, with many dressed up visitors who can be scary and stressful for pets.

Not only do your pets need a separate spot away from the action, but so does the candy.

Lots of Halloween treats are toxic to pets, like chocolate and artificial sweeteners, so make sure to keep candy in a safe space where pets can’t reach.

Caitlin Ausmann-Winn, the community development manager for the Humane Society of the Black Hills, says it’s important to have a solid plan for your fur-babies around holidays.
