KCHC to kickoff the Seal-A-Smile program in schools [Video]

The Seal-A-Smile dental program is back in Kenosha County schools for another year through the assistance of the Kenosha Community Health Center and the Children’s Health Alliance of Wisconsin.

The Seal-A-Smile initiative is a state-sponsored children’s oral health prevention program that aims to directly deliver dental prevention services to students in public elementary schools.

As part of the program, dental sealants are applied by a dental hygienist. The sealants, which are described as a quick and painless process, are thin, protective coatings that shield the chewing surfaces of the back teeth from harmful, cavity-causing bacteria.

With some children in Kenosha County having limited access to dental care, the program is designed to fill that care gap, providing prevention, hygiene, and vital oral health education services. It’s particularly geared towards students from kindergarten through fifth grade, ensuring the services are available free of charge to families.
