WINFIELD, Kan. (KSN) — Winfield Fire/EMS hosted its seventh annual memorial stair climb on Wednesday.
It officially kicked off at 7:30 a.m. at the Christy Administration Building at Southwestern College, but first responders and community members began showing up at 5 a.m.
“Year after year, we come out here and do the stair climb in honor of all the fallen firefighters, the 343 NYFD firefighters, 27 NYPD and 37 port authority officers to honor their memory, never forget them,” firefighter/EMT Jason Canonigo said.

There are 77 stairs, so they are walking up them 27 times to total the over 2,000 steps in the World Trade Center.
