Judge rules original French Quarter trash contract must be honored [Video]

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Orleans Civil District Court Judge Paulette Irons ruled that the original contract between the City of New Orleans and Henry Consulting for French Quarter trash collection must be honored, throwing the city’s recent emergency contract with IV Waste into limbo.

This decision follows weeks of controversy surrounding waste disposal in the French Quarter, with city leaders, contractors, and waste management companies clashing over the process.

The City of New Orleans initially awarded the contract to Henry Consulting to begin trash and recycling collection in the French Quarter on Dec. 23. However, tensions arose during a public works committee hearing when it was revealed that Henry Consulting planned to switch to a new subcontractor, Clean Force.

This change prompted a lawsuit from Richard’s Disposal, accusing Henry Consulting of a “bait and switch” for altering its subcontractor plan.
