Journalism student, professor discuss AI as some media outlets incorporate the technology [Video]

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Artificial intelligence is finding its way to media outlets even in Northwest Arkansas.

AI can be used in many ways like school work, art, music, or even in media.

But for some people, like University of Arkansas journalism student Katie Glanton that could be a scary thing.

“I don’t want to lose my future job to a computer,” Glanton said.

Scammers use AI to clone voices

Dr. Ginger Blackstone, associate professor for the School of Journalism and Strategic Media at the University of Arkansas and a former broadcaster, says AI could be used to get breaking news on air or websites quicker.

She says if those in the media use AI, it is important to be ethical about it and make sure the information is factual.

“We have to be honest that this is what this is, and we want to be sure that we’re sharing the truth,” Blackstone said.
