Joplin Homeless Coalition brings local organizations together for connectivity event downtown [Video]

JOPLIN, Mo. — A local non-profit hosted a community event geared towards helping the homeless Thursday afternoon.

The Joplin Homeless Coalition hosted its second Homeless Connectivity Event of the year at the Central Christian Center in downtown Joplin. This event brings together more than 20 local organizations, such as Lafayette House and Access Family Care, that use their resources to help the local homeless population.

Free food was given out, as well as additional supplies and services like free toothbrushes and complimentary haircuts.

“I think it’s very important because we are basically offering access to services that might not otherwise be accessible, and we do it so that we can connect with folks and hopefully, ultimately find them housing,” said Robin Smith, Joplin Homeless Coalition Chairman.

This was the last Connectivity Event of the year for the Homeless Coalition, with plans of doing it again next January.
