OXFORD, Iowa (KCRG) – A new Johnson County Conservation event is hoping to reduce waste.
Over 200 people attended the Community Clothing Swap. Attendees could pick out and take home any clothes they wanted for free. Over 1,200 pounds of clothes were kept from landfills by the end of the event.
Some parents were there looking for clothing for their babies that grow out of clothes fast.
One mother said the event was a sustainable way to get clothes her baby needs.
“Buying second-hand clothing is just another aspect of living a more sustainable life. And there’s just so many clothes out there, fast fashion and all of those things really make an impact on our environment,” Carly Sibert said. “We like to personally try and do whatever we can to prevent at least ourselves from contributing to that waste,” she said.
