Superstar wrestler John Cena’s shock retirement announcement was the story of the weekend as WWE presented its most successful Toronto shows ever on July 5-7 at the Scotiabank Arena.
WWE Hall of Famer and Toronto native Trish Stratus introduced Cena, where he made the announcement holding up his signature towel that stated “The Last Time is Now”.
The 16-time champion has been with the company for over two decades.
“I’ve always said the WWE is my home,” said a calm Cena, during a press conference after the show. “I look forward to ending my partnership in the ring in the best way I possibly can and being a member of the extended WWE family for quite some time to come.”
He plans to be part of the company with a farewell tour from January to December of 2025, with 30-40 dates on the list.
