The dog sled marathon, originally scheduled for late January, has been rescheduled in hopes additional snow will fall later this season.
DULUTH, Minn. — The John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon is postponed to March 2, 2025, according to a press release Thursday.
In the release, race officials cited unsafe trail conditions as the reason for pushing the historic race back. Organizers said the 300-mile course along Lake Superior is risky due to icy terrain and a lack of snow.
This is a familiar refrain for participants, as the race did not occur in 2024 due to unseasonably warm weather.
