CHICAGO—Just after midnight EST, Tuesday morning, almost 40 minutes into Joe Biden’s first and final speech at this year’s Democratic National Convention, it finally became clear why the 81-year-old held on so very long.
It wasn’t about being president, not really. It wasn’t about his legacy or a second term. For Joe Biden, it was about beating Donald Trump, again, about being the one to finally end Trump’s political career, to see him sent packing, back to Mar-a-Lago or, better yet, to federal jail.
