Jimmie Hale Mission cuts ribbon on renovated dormitory [Video]

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Jimmie Hale Mission cut the ribbon on its newly renovated Shepura Men’s Dormitory on Wednesday, Oct. 23.

The project is nearly six years in the making. The building that was renovated is more than 100 years old.

The dormitory was previously an open-air space, now it is set up suite-style, providing the men with more privacy.

The hope is that the transformation of the dormitory will serve as a reminder of the transformation possible for the city’s most vulnerable population.

“When our community is hurting, they need to know that there‘s a safe haven for them. A place of refuge. It turns out that Jimmie Hale represents just that, a shelter from the personal storms in so many of our residents’ lives,” said Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin.

Renovations are part of the Lasting Transformation capital campaign.
