BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Recent terror attacks in New Orleans and Las Vegas have left Americans on edge, including people in Central Alabama. Many are now asking, “What if something like that happens here?”
To address this concern, Jefferson County Emergency Management (EMA) is taking proactive steps to prepare for potential threats and ensure public safety during major events.
Deputy Director Chris Tate of Jefferson County EMA emphasizes that there’s no such thing as overplanning when it comes to protecting the community.
The EMA acts as a facilitator during large-scale events, coordinating response and recovery efforts and identifying areas for improvement. After any major event, they conduct a comprehensive review to determine what went right, what went wrong, and how to enhance future efforts.
One example of their work occurred during the 2022 World Games in Birmingham. Tate explained that a key vulnerability was identified at Boutwell Auditorium.
