Jefferson County unveiled a new regional housing strategy on Friday morning at its annual State of the Region event.
Introduced as the “Jeffco Housing Blueprint,” mayors from six of the county’s largest cities, alongside District 3 Commissioner Lesley Dahlkemper, took the stage for a moderated discussion at Revive Church at The Bridge in Arvada. They addressed regional challenges and emphasized how the Blueprint proposes more collaborative solutions to tackle the shortage of affordable housing, one of the county’s most urgent issues.
Along with Dahlkemper, panelists included: Arvada Mayor Lauren Simpson; Edgewater Mayor Steve Conklin; Golden Mayor Laura Weinberg; Lakewood Mayor Wendi Strom; Westminster Mayor Nancy McNally and Wheat Ridge Mayor Bud Starker.
Over the years, the county’s demographics have shifted. Many residents no longer live in the same communities where they work, with lack of adequate affordable housing being a primary factor driving this change.
