JD Souther Dies: Singer/Songwriter/Eagles Collaborator Was 78 [Video]

JD Souther, the accomplished singer/songwriter who co-wrote some of the Eagles‘ biggest hits and and was a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, has passed away at the age of 78.

The news was announced on Wednesday, with no cause of death listed. Reps from Souther’s PR form did note that he passed away “peacefully” at home in New Mexico.

With the Eagles, Souther was credited with co-writing “New Kid in Town” and “Best of My Love,” the latter of which became the band’s first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, landing at the top spot in March 1975.

In addition to those songs, Souther was also credited as contributing to other notable Eagles songs including “Heartache Tonight,” “Victim of Love,” “Last Good Time in Town” and more.
