IUS starts program that supports tourism [Video]

Tourism is a growing business in Kentucky, and in the greater Louisville area it’s a $3 billion business.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — As cities try to bounce back to pre-pandemic foot traffic, universities like Indiana University Southeast are preparing students to enter the field. 

The school started a new bachelor degree in tourism and event planning. 

Tourism is a growing business in Kentucky, and in the greater Louisville area it’s a $3 billion business.

When asked why they added the program, Michelle Williams, the vice chancellor of Academic Affairs, said it’s all about location.

“This particular location in Kentuckiana is rich with tourism and activities; it’s a travelers destination,” Williams said. “What we hear in the industry is that they have more need for qualified workforce in this area, people who can come in and understand the industry.”
