In parallel with the national conversation around age as an indicator of fitness for office, I have been struggling with my own journey as a 50-something only child who has been helping my 88-year-old mother and 90-year-old father transition from their home of over half a century into an assisted living facility.

While my father is struggling with dementia and has lost a step or two in his gait, my mother, only slightly younger, is still sharp as a tack.
