ISU student charged with harassment for alleged death threats [Video]

NORMAL (25News Now) – An Illinois State University from Bangladesh is jailed in McLean County on a felony harassment charge for allegedly threatening to kill another student in September.

Mehedi Hasan, 29, is charged with harassment through electronic communications.

ISU Police Chief Aaron Woodruff said Hasan made repeated threats to the female student and to the university’s Muslim Student Association by sending emails and social media posts. Woodruff said the young woman got a protection order, but the threats continued.

Judge Gregory Minger ordered Hasan to remain in jail before his trial based on grounds that Hasan is dangerous, and that Hasan’s mental health is in a “severe disturbed state.”

Hasan’s arraignment is scheduled for Oct. 25.
