Islamic group banned in other countries plans Mississauga conference [Video]

An Islamic fundamentalist group that’s banned in several countries plans to hold a conference in Mississauga this month, a year after cancelling a similar event due to public scrutiny.

The Canadian branch of Hizb ut-Tahrir (HT) plans to go ahead with the Khilafah conference on Jan. 18 at a yet-to-be-determined location.

Khilafah, or caliphate, is a political-religious institution led by a caliph, who is considered the successor to the Islamic prophet Muhammad.

On its Facebook page, the organization says topics at the conference will focus on the obstacles and challenges facing the Islamic community and how to overcome them.

Hizb ut-Tahrir planned a conference with similar themes in January of 2024, but pulled out a day after the organization was declared to be a terrorist group in Britain following claims that it is antisemitic.
