Reddit officials said they are looking into the cause of the issues.
While some site features are back online, users accessing the site’s main page Wednesday afternoon were unable to see any posts, only a message saying, “upstream connect error or disconnect/reset before headers.”
On the mobile app, the Reddit mascot was shown with two x’s for eyed with no ability to navigate off that screen. Hours later, some users are unable to interact with posts or communities.
Outage tracking site DownDetector indicates the problem began around 3:00 p.m. Eastern. Within half an hour, more than 46,000 reports had come in from users unable to access the site. By 5:40 p.m. Eastern, reports had died down to 17,614 and by 8 p.m. Eastern, reports were a measly 500.
