IRS Extends Tax Deadlines in New York and Connecticut [Video]

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has extended tax deadlines for certain taxpayers in New York and Connecticut.

Following severe storms and flooding from torrential rainfall that began on August 18, four counties across the two states have been granted tax deadline extensions. These taxpayers now have until February 3, 2025, to file various federal individual and business tax returns and make payments.

Disaster areas are designated following a significant incident, natural or human-made, such as severe weather events, fires and terrorist attacks. The Federal Emergency Management Agency is the government body that can declare areas a disaster area, for which the IRS then issues tax relief measures.

The following areas are subject to the extended deadline:

New York

  • Suffolk County,

Connecticut

  • Fairfield County
  • Litchfield County
  • New Haven County
