Irish Medtech call on next Government for industry protection [Video]

Irish Medtech has called for the new government to introduce a national health tech strategy to help protect the industry’s future.

The Ibec group that represents the sector listed a number of key policies they believe are vital to support the multi-billion euro sector.

The recommended policies being proposed by IM range from expanding research, and embracing new technologies to protecting the all-important apprenticeship programmes.

They noted employment in MedTech is expected to grow from 48,000 to 56,000 over the next four years.

Irish Medtech Director Eoghan Ó Faoláin said: “Ireland is one of the top five global medtech hubs, competing with the likes of Massachusetts, Minnesota and California in the USA.

“Our success is over a century in the making, with the sector now spanning 450 companies, including 9 of the world’s top 10 medtech companies with exports of €16bn.
