IRELAND fans have taken to social media after spotting Heimir Hallgrimsson singing the national anthem before their Nations League clash against Greece.
England boss Lee Carsley came under fire last week for refusing to sing God Save the King’ in the Aviva Stadium last Saturday.
Hallgrimsson was similarly mute for the occasion, but tonight made the effort to sing along Amhran na Bhfiann – at least to the best of his abilities.
Heimir said previously: “I’ve listened to the national anthem, it’s difficult for a foreigner to understand.
“It’s going to be a tricky thing to learn Gaelige.”
One fan on X said: “Heimir Hallgrímsson attempting to sing the national anthem in his second game in charge. Are you watching Lee Carsley lol”
Another quipped: “Is 9 out of 11 players singing the national anthem a new record?
When asked who didn’t, he replied: …
