Independent radio sector launches strategy for improving diversity and inclusion [Video]

The independent commercial radio sector has launched a new strategy to increase diversity and inclusion on-air and in its operations.

Independent Broadcasters of Ireland‘s gender, equality, diversity and inclusion strategy is intended to help the organisation’s 34 member stations “meet challenges and opportunities in the area.”

The strategy was developed by local, regional, multi-city and national radio stations within Independent Broadcasters of Ireland and the sector’s training organisation, Learning Waves.

Independent radio has a 70% share of listenership in Ireland, equating to more than 2m daily listeners, and the sector employs around 1,200 people.

“Each day millions of people across this country choose to make independent radio a part of their lives. Broadcasting to and engaging with such a huge audience, we have a unique position in a changing Ireland and we welcome, respect and value diversity,” said John Purcell, chair of Independent Broadcasters of Ireland.
