SIOUX CITY — A dozen churches will open their doors to the public on Dec. 7 for the inaugural Tour of Steeples, a community event that will benefit the Siouxland Soup Kitchen and the Warming Shelter.
The tour, which runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will allow attendees to take in Christmas decorations, sample snacks and listen to live music, while coming and going from each church as they please.
“I think all of the churches involved just want an opportunity to welcome people into our churches who might not normally come,” said the Rev. Mark Bedford, pastor at First Presbyterian Church. “For a lot of people, our churches are just big, beautiful landmarks in the landscape, but they might not attend. So we’d like to give them the opportunity to come inside and see what the building looks like and be welcomed by our members.”
