Even though our traditional alliances at the Straight run towards unvarnished punk, gunsmoke country, underground alternative, classic hip-hop, and candy-crunch pop, we’ll argue long and hard that “Turn Me Loose” is one of the greatest songs ever to come out of this waterlogged (even in summer) city.

Back in 2017, when the Straight was celebrating its half-century anniversary, the good-ship-lollipop’s various music obsessives came up with a list of the 50 best albums in the history of Vancouver—one for each year of the paper’s existence.
