Improper release of inmate press conference | Guilford County, NC [Video]

Deputies said an inmate who was released from the Greensboro jail by mistake is back in custody.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Guilford County Sheriff’s Office said an inmate who was released from the Greensboro jail by mistake is back in custody.

Sheriff Danny Rogers said the inmate, 32-year-old Carlos Gomez, used the identity of another inmate to ‘deceive’ corrections officers to get out of jail on Monday.

The Sheriff’s Office said they did not find out until Wednesday when a warrant for Gomez went out for felony escape from a local jail and felony identity theft.

Sheriff Rogers said Gomez was initially in jail for misdemeanor driving while impaired, failure to appear for felony common law robbery, and misdemeanor assault on a female.

The Sheriff’s Office said he was caught in Winston-Salem on Friday and returned to the Greensboro jail.

He received no bond and has a court date on Monday.

Sheriff Rogers did not take questions on the matter.
