People living in Treme said the illegal tire dumping near the Interstate 10 on-ramp at Orleans and Derbigny is driving them crazy and they want them gone.”There’s always tires, there’s always a sofa, there’s even cars that have been abandoned in that section,” said Philip Stelly.Stelly said the area has been cleaned up before, but it seems to be a hot spot for dumping as more tires pop up each day.”It’s an isolated area — there’s very little lighting, it’s overgrown. You know, that’s where problems fester,” said Stelly.In April, the community decided to clean the area by removing debris and stacking tires, but people said they want preventive measures in place.
