In 2024, the International Education Association of Australia (IEAA) celebrates 20 years of advocating for and empowering Australia’s international education community.
For two decades, our Association has championed the vast cultural and economic value of our sector to Australia. We have achieved this through providing professional development and networking opportunities to stakeholders, advocating to all levels of government and the wider community, and funding key research needs.
From its humble beginnings in a garage in 2004, to its current position as the “go to” voice of international education on the national stage, the Association has helped steward the remarkable growth and maturation of the sector.
IEAA now has almost 4,000 members from almost 300 organisations across higher education, vocational education and training, government, schools, education agents, and English language training.
We have co-presented the annual Australian International Education Conference (AIEC) with IDP Education since 2007. In 2019 we established the IEAA Fellowship program – Australia’s premier professional credential for international education. Our Association maintains longstanding partnerships with Australian sister peak bodies , the Council for International Students of Australia (CISA) and the global Network of International Education Associations (NIEA).
IEAA is the advocacy body representing a key segment of the Australian economy. International education is currently Australia’s fourth largest export, and Australia’s largest services export. It also delivers substantial social benefits to Australia, as international students study and work in our communities and share their culture. In a similar vein, through educating young people from around the globe, we effectively enhance Australia’s soft power diplomacy.
The International Education Association of Australia thanks all those who have invested both their volunteer and professional time to the growth of the sector. We greatly appreciate their willingness to share their knowledge, as we continue on our journey to support Australia’s world class education system and the students who benefit from it.
