A mother has revealed on social media that she gives her son cash to go on a ‘date’ with her and the internet doesn’t quite know what to make of it.

Sharing a video on Instagram of her 12-year-old taking her out, Melissa Ann Marie explained that her son gets a $50 (£38) monthly allowance to plan a ‘date’ with her.

Why? To teach him to respect women and prepare him for dating in the future, says the 31-year-old from San Diego.

In the caption, Melissa wrote: ‘The idea is you are prepping them for how to take a girl out on a date in the future so they aren’t completely lost when the time comes. 

‘So you help them along the way with how to plan and execute a date, and you teach them basic etiquette and manners.’
