CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Hy-Vee partnered with Coe College to help some families in Cedar Rapids with their holiday meals.
The giveaway is part of Hy-Vee’s Hams for the Holidays campaign, 18 Hy-Vee stores across the Midwest are giving away 5,000 hams.
Members of the Kohawk baseball and softball teams were handing them out. The giveaway took place in an area near the Mound View and Wellington Heights neighborhoods that are considered a food desert.
“Anything we can do to get involved in the community or in the lives of people here. It’s our customers and we wanna help however we can,” said Heather Geariety, Hy-Vee district director.
Hy-Vee says the campaign is part of an effort by the company and Hormel foods to fight food insecurity in communities served by Hy-Vee’s stores.
