The US Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunters have shared footage from a recent mission that saw them fly into Hurricane Helene to capture data for storm forecasting.
The planes, which played a vital role in tracking the storm’s intensity, measured temperature, humidity, pressure, and wind speed.
“We provide the eyes and ears of the National Hurricane Center,” explained Jenna Martinez, a weather reconnaissance loadmaster.
“Our data helps in predicting the storm’s path, its strength, and its potential impact, which is critical for emergency management.”
