HONOLULU (Island News) – The Hawaii Workers Center (HWC), the University of Philippines Alumni Association of Hawaii (UPAAH), and the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns (NAFCON) held its first annual Hawaii Walk for Health.
On Sunday, August 11, hundreds gathered at the Neal S. Blaisdell Park to participate in its first ever Hawaii Walk for Health event. The event aimed to encourage the community to implement healthy movements.
Event-goers were able to participate in stretching exercises, dancing, walking and escrima. Escrima is a stick martial art of the Philippines. The walk aimed to bring awareness to the disparities faced by workers, especially racial and ethnic groups such as the Filipino community, in terms of social and economic conditions in Hawaii.
