Hundreds celebrate the first night of Hanukkah across the DMV [Video]

It’s a time to come together and embrace the Jewish community as they celebrate the Festival of lights.

FAIRFAX, Va. — People in the Northern Virginia community came together to kick of the Festival of Lights.

“This is a unique holiday that is specifically about bringing light to darkness,” Chabad of Northern Virginia, Rabbi Sholom Deitsch said.

Wednesday marked the first night of Hanukkah, people gathered from all over to commemorate the holy holiday. Residents in Fairfax gathered in Old Town Square for those who celebrate and enjoyed the company of those who simply support.

“The rich culture and diversity of our community is celebrating everyone who lives here,” Fairfax Mayor Catherine Read said.

Read says, it’s important for everyone to have a space to celebrate what they believe in.
