Hueytown community honors NASCAR legend Bobby Allison after funeral [Video]

HUEYTOWN, Ala. (WBRC) – One of the most successful drivers in NASCAR Cup Series history was laid to rest in Alabama on Saturday.

Loved ones said farewell to racing legend Bobby Allison at Peoples Chapel Funeral Home in Hueytown.

Officers then escorted Allison down Brooklane Drive to his final resting place, as people gathered along the funeral procession route to show their support.

“Bobby was a great man and it’s a sad day in Hueytown when this happened,” said Mike Elrod, a Hueytown resident.

Allison passed away at the age of 86.

He was one of the original members of the famous Alabama Gang that settled in Hueytown.

Allison won 85 times in his career, putting him fourth on the all-time list. He won the 1983 NASCAR Championship and the Daytona 500 three times.

Mike and Lisa Elrod own Western Realty across the street from the funeral home. They put up a sign that read:
