ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – In his convincing victory in Georgia, President-Elect Donald Trump had help from a surprising voting bloc: Latinos.
Traditionally thought of as more reliably progressive, Trump captured nearly half of Latino men and almost 40% of Latina women on Tuesday. For those in the community, it was less unexpected.
“They make an assumption that they‘re Democrat,” said Angel Rosario, a veteran and Latino advocate who voted for Trump. “And it’s like, we’re a lot bigger than that. We’re about working hard. We’re about opportunity. We’re about strong families. We’re about strong faith. Nowhere in Kamala (Harris’) campaign was that ever said.”
Metro Atlanta counties like Cobb and Gwinnett have large populations of Latino voters, and while Trump didn’t outright win those counties, he captured a good amount of votes there from the Hispanic bloc.
