How to Strike the Right CSR Balance [Video]

A good strategy can prove to be a winning formula for a company, writes Gerry Byrne

This is the first year that many Irish companies are affected by the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting (CSR) directive.

Apart from requiring companies to report any social or environmental programmes they may (or may not) operate, it doesn’t actually oblige them to do anything else.

But it is still a valuable activity for most companies, and forces them to think about what they are doing to improve their social and environmental impact on the planet. It also has other, less obvious, benefits.

Engaging in CSR programmes can help companies attract better qualified job applicants.

It is generally accepted that a good humane or environmentally sound CSR strategy demonstrates that a corporate body is compassionate and treats everybody, especially employees, extremely well.

There is little doubt that CSR activities reflect a more positive, productive work environment.
