The Better Business Bureau Serving Connecticut says scammers have adapted to peer-to-peer payment services and are stealing from unsuspecting users.

CROMWELL, Conn. — Peer-to-peer services have become a primary solution for everything from splitting the price of an Uber with a friend to paying a landlord rent.

While digital transactions are convenient, they can also be risky when completed carelessly. The Better Business Bureau Serving Connecticut issued a release this week, informing residents that scammers have adapted to the platforms, exploiting them to steal from unsuspecting users.

The BBB says one local woman already paid before realizing she sent money to a scam company. After she requested that the order be cancelled, the scammer didn’t reply for days. The woman put a dispute for the charge through her bank and PayPal.

Then, the scammer replied, saying that they were attempting to refund the money but couldn’t due to a PayPal dispute. …
