Friday marks one year since the Lewiston mass shooting, which left 18 people dead on Oct. 25, 2023.Maine’s Total Coverage has been working with nonprofit community mental health provider Sweetser to help reduce stigma around seeking mental health treatment and educating the public around available resources.Sweetser’s president and chief executive officer Jayne Van Bramer acknowledges that anniversaries of tragic events can be difficult for people to handle, but there are several things that can be done to help people process and work through them.”They include things like connecting with family and community,” Van Bramer said. “At our core, we are all social beings, so reach out and spend time with your loved ones, attend community remembrance events.
