How Indy prepares for large events after New Orleans attack [Video]

INDIANAPOLIS — It’s no secret Indianapolis loves big events. In 2024, the city had Taylor Swift, NBA All-Star Weekend, the total solar eclipse and U.S. Olympic Swim Trials, plus many annual events.

“You’re just learning from one year to the next, what worked, what didn’t work,” said Troy Riggs, former director of public safety. 

He said it takes about a year of safety and security planning for large-scale events.

“You look at the event itself, where it’s going to be located, and then you work your way out to make sure ingress and egress is taken care of, safety issues. What are the high points that could be an issue?
