HOTC Seeks Input for Exit 31 Interchange Improvements | News [Video]

Public offers input to improve Exit 31

UTICA, N.Y. — The Herkimer-Oneida Counties Transportation Council (HOTC) hosted a public open house at the North Utica Community Center Tuesday to present improvement options for the Exit 31 interchange of the New York State Thruway.

Area residents were able to view input from previous public forums and offer feedback to the transportation council on ways to improve the exit. The HOTC will then use this information to develop concepts to address safety issues, and improve connectivity between North Utica and downtown, as well as other destinations, in hopes of promoting economic development in the area.

“The exit is a little outdated,” says Oneida County Commissioner of Planning, James Genovese.

It has not been studied in a long time, probably since its creation. It is complicated to traverse, and not the safest exit you will see, so it was time to look at ways in which we could make that first and foremost safer, and then also make it more …
