Horizon Middle School mourns 13-year-old student who drowned in Clear Lake [Video]

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – Horizon Middle School has responded to the tragic news of the death of Addyson Shafer a student of the school, who drowned in Clear Lake.

In a statement sent to Nonstop Local, the school said “Those who knew Addyson know she is a creative, positive, caring individual who was supportive to her peers and those around her. Addyson is artistic, genuine, curious and always greets you with a smile! To say Addison is kind would be an understatement. She is an avid dancer and will be truly missed.”

The press release also encouraged parents to be sensitive to their children’s questions, concerns, or fears related to the incident. It noted that children who attended school with Shafer might experience an intense grief process, and advised parents to acknowledge their children’s feelings and provide empathy.
