SHELTON, CT (WFSB) – A large fire late Friday night has destroyed a historic building at the Highland Golf Club in Shelton, just months before it was set to celebrate its 125th anniversary.
Firefighters responded to the golf course, located at 261 Wooster Street, shortly before midnight after receiving reports of a large flame.
Upon arrival, crews found that the fire had spread to the roof, and it quickly engulfed the building.
Several propane tanks were involved, and one tank experienced a catastrophic failure, intensifying the blaze.
Live power lines were also burning.
No one was inside when the fire began, and fortunately, no injuries have been reported.
The last person to leave the community center was said to have departed around 6 p.m. on Friday.
Around two hundred members arrived in the morning to take a look at the damage.
