As the son of Jackie McInally, Alan was born to a footballing legend, who, in 1965, played for Kilmarnock’s title-winning side, scoring an impressive eleven goals. Alan won his first medal during the 1985 to 1986 season, when Celtic, competing against Heart of Midlothian Football Club, won the title based on goal difference. After leaving Celtic, Alan moved to the English club, Aston Villa.

Whilst playing for the club, he helped them to win their 1988 promotion. After being transferred to the German team, Bayern Munich, Alan played with them for four years and made eight international appearances, appearing in their 1990 FIFA World Cup squad.

Alan has previously played for Ayr United, Aston Villa, Celtic, Bayern Munich and Kilmarnock, over the course of his exceptionally successful playing career, he brought home the European Cup with Celtic in 1985. Alan’s third, and final, season with Celtic was his most successful. Between 1986 and 1987, he scored fifteen goals in his thirty-eight league games.
