HILLS, Iowa (KCRG) – The Iowa City Community School District and the city of Hills are in agreement on the demolition of the Hills Elementary School building.
The district and city leaders announced the decision in a joint press release Wednesday, saying the decision was made after considering other potential uses for the building and the costs for renovations.
“After extensive discussions and evaluations, both parties concluded that demolition of the building is the most practical option, given that the City of Hills has determined that the building, in its current layout, does not meet the City’s needs,” the district said in a press release.
Iowa City Community School District Superintendent Matt Degner said demolishing the building is the most practical and beneficial choice.
The demolition is expected to begin in the coming months. More details on the process are expected to be released at a later date.
