Sheriff Botie Hillhouse said first responders had to deal with low cell service when a tornado struck the Coffee City area last year.
HENDERSON COUNTY, Texas — Henderson County officials recently received mobile cell towers to improve communication after natural disasters strike and during large events.
The sheriff’s office in collaboration with the office of emergency management purchased the devices using COVID-19 relief funding.
“So if a tornado came through and knocked down cell tower in a certain area, we would be able to deploy our towers and all your first responders and people that are working on the scene to try to clean everything up and get things back to normal as quickly as possible,” Sheriff Botie Hillhouse said. “We’ll be able to use these two towers and link up to them, and they’re going to be a great asset.”
