Helene leaves town without power and water in North Carolina [Video]

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – The cleanup and recovery efforts continue across the storm-ravaged southeast.

One of those towns is Montreat, a small town about 20 minutes east of Asheville.

Wendy Lewkowicz has been sharing her story with the world through social media.

She said she and her family were cut off from the world on Friday when they lost all cell phone service and landslides blocked every way into Asheville and in turn her small community just outside it.

Lewkowicz is a mother who lives in Montreat, North Carolina.

She told us how the catastrophic flooding from Helene had destroyed her town.

She said during an emergency town meeting on Monday, city officials said the town could be without power for three to four more weeks, maybe more.

Lewkowicz also said the entire infrastructure of Montreat, along with the water supply, has been wiped out.
