A BAN on balaclavas at protests could be introduced by the Government following rioting in two major Irish cities.
Following the Dublin riots last November and last weekend’s violence in Belfast, officials are hoping to further prevent intimidation.
They are also aiming to reduce the chance that those who commit violence and disorder evading arrest.
New legislation is set to be drafted by Justice Minister Helen McEntee which would see balaclavas and other face coverings specifically worn to intimidate now banned at all protests.
McEntee is said to be consulting with Attorney General Rossa Fanning and Garda Commissioner Drew Harris, the Irish Examiner have reported.
